Ola Electric has quickly become a major player in India’s two-wheeler EV market. After the success of the Ola S1 series, the company is working on multiple new models, one of which is the Ola Electric “New Gig”. This upcoming EV is expected to be a lifestyle electric motorcycle or scooter, targeting young riders who want style, performance, and eco-friendly commuting. Ola has already shown concepts of different body types, including street bikes and cruisers, so the “New Gig” could be one of these. It will play a big role in India’s electric two-wheeler future.
Design & Styling
While Ola has not revealed the final design, the New Gig is expected to follow Ola’s futuristic design language. This means it will have a sleek body, LED lighting, aerodynamic styling, and minimalistic panels. Ola has always focused on modern looks with bold colors, so we can expect the same with this model. The “New Gig” may come in multiple body styles, including a sporty naked bike version or a commuter-friendly scooter. Whatever the design, Ola will ensure it appeals to young Indian riders who value both style and practicality.
Battery & Performance
The Ola Electric New Gig will be powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack. Depending on the variant, the range is expected to be around 150–200 km per charge. The motor could produce around 8–12 kW of peak power, giving strong acceleration and top speeds of around 110–120 km/h. Ola will likely tune it for quick pick-up, making it ideal for city traffic as well as highway rides. With fast-charging support, the battery could charge up to 50–60% in under 30 minutes, reducing downtime for riders.
Features & Technology
Like the Ola S1 series, the New Gig will come loaded with smart features. It will likely have a large touchscreen dashboard with navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, music control, and ride statistics. Ola’s MoveOS software will power the bike, providing features like cruise control, multiple riding modes, hill-hold assist, and keyless unlock. Safety features like ABS (for motorcycle version), traction control, and regenerative braking could also be included. Ola is expected to push updates over-the-air (OTA), meaning new features can be added even after purchase.
Suspension & Handling
The New Gig will likely feature telescopic front forks and a mono-shock rear suspension for comfort and handling. Since Ola is building this as a lifestyle product, the ride quality will be tuned to balance city comfort and highway stability. If it is a scooter version, it will use 12-inch alloy wheels, while the motorcycle version may get 17-inch alloys with tubeless tyres. Ola will also focus on low center of gravity placement of the battery, ensuring better handling, agility in traffic, and safer cornering at high speeds.
Braking & Safety
Braking duties will be handled by disc brakes on both wheels with CBS or dual-channel ABS depending on the variant. Electric vehicles often have regenerative braking, which not only improves stopping power but also recharges the battery slightly while slowing down. This makes braking smoother and more efficient. Safety will also include side-stand cut-off, anti-theft alerts, and geofencing features, which are useful for urban riders. Ola’s connected ecosystem will allow users to track their vehicle live, adding an extra layer of security.
Comfort & Ergonomics
The Ola New Gig will be designed for comfort during daily commuting as well as long weekend rides. It will have a wide seat with soft cushioning, suitable for both rider and pillion. The footpeg placement and upright handlebar will ensure a relaxed riding posture. Since EVs are silent and vibration-free, the ride quality will feel smoother compared to petrol bikes. Ola may also offer multiple seat height options or accessories for touring, making it more versatile for different kinds of riders.
Range & Charging
Range is one of the most important factors for EVs. The New Gig is expected to deliver a real-world range of 150–200 km, depending on riding mode and conditions. Ola will integrate it with its expanding Hypercharger network, allowing riders to recharge quickly across Indian cities. Home charging via a portable charger will take around 5–6 hours for a full charge, while fast-charging could provide 75 km of range in just 15–20 minutes. This flexibility will make the New Gig practical for both daily use and weekend getaways.
Price & Launch in India
The Ola Electric New Gig is expected to launch in mid-2025. Pricing will depend on whether it comes as a motorcycle or scooter, but it is likely to start around ₹1.5 lakh – ₹2 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price, it will compete with Revolt RV400, Tork Kratos R, Oben Rorr, and Ultraviolette F77 (lower variant). Ola will target young professionals and college students who want a stylish EV with modern features and affordable running costs. Given Ola’s strong brand presence, the New Gig could become a bestseller in its segment.
